The Cloverdale Citrus Fair began as a typical small country fair in 1892 and still remains the earliest fair held in California each year. As you’ll soon see, this event has blossomed into a major community effort, resulting in one of the most memorable and entertaining events in California.
In the beginning, the exhibits and displays included little more than wooden frameworks with a few oranges affixed to the structures. Today, community members with service clubs, churches, schools, and individuals vie for the most outstanding entry eagerly contributing their exceptionally varied talents with spirited competition. Rules now require that a minimum of ninety dozen citrus fruits be used on an exhibit and fifty percent of these fruits to be oranges.
By Fair time, visitors are greeted by elaborate, three dimensional exhibits, some as high as eighteen feet. The judges consider the overall effect and appropriateness to the theme, but the real focus is upon technique and workmanship.
The Cloverdale Citrus Fairgrounds also provide top rate building and facility rentals. In fact, we’re now better than ever since over the past few years, we have undergone some major remodeling projects by highlighting our banquet rooms, meeting rooms, major landscaping projects, spacious restrooms with shower facilities and improved RV hookups all provide the best rental facilities in the area.
On behalf of the Citrus Fair Staff and Board of Directors of the second largest Citrus Fair on the West Coast, we would like to invite you to visit our wonderful fairgrounds. We’re sure you’ll enjoy our park like atmosphere as well as our community. We look forward to seeing you at the Cloverdale Citrus Fair.
